Lanzarote Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K
About this race
Escape the December greyness for winter sun on the volcanic island of Lanzarote. Three distances, a dramatic coastal course and near-perfect running weather make this one of our most popular trips of the year.
The race
The Lanzarote International Marathon has been held on the volcanic island since 2011 and is now the Canary Islands' biggest road-running weekend. Marathon, half, 10K, 5K and kids' race across two days, all starting and finishing on the Avenida de las Playas seafront in Puerto del Carmen.
The course
A two-loop course for the marathon, single loop for the half, along the wide closed-off Avenida de las Playas and out towards the airport road. The course rolls gently — around 200 m of gain over the marathon — with black volcanic hills to your right and the Atlantic to your left the whole way.
Course
Rolling coastal loops

~200 m (marathon)
Distances
42.2K / 21.1K / 10K / 5K

The destination
Puerto del Carmen is Lanzarote's original resort town: a 6 km seafront lined with restaurants, a working fishing harbour at the old town end, and easy access to César Manrique's remarkable architectural sites (Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Río, Timanfaya National Park) inland.
Climate & race-day weather
December in Lanzarote is genuinely warm — 16°C at dawn, 22°C by mid-morning, and virtually rain-free thanks to its position off the African coast. Trade winds keep it fresh even on the marathon's later miles.
Getting there
Lanzarote (ACE) is a 15-minute taxi from Puerto del Carmen and has direct year-round flights from most UK airports on Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair and TUI.
